A Gift in your Will
Making a will ensures that the assets you have built up over the years
will be distributed according to your wishes.
If you would like to support St. Paul's in your will, you can set aside a certain dollar amount or designate a percentage of the residue of your estate (the remainder of the estate once all designated gifts have been made and administrative expenses and taxes have been paid) for St. Paul's Hospital Foundation. You can also bequeath a specific piece of property like a home, securities (for instance, stocks or mutual funds) or other financial asset. The tax benefits derived from these gifts are often quite substantial.
If you intend to leave a gift in your will - large or small - to St. Paul's Hospital Foundation of Vancouver (our legal name), the process is very straightforward. It is simply a matter of preparing a will or codicil and including a phrase about your intention.
Sample phrases for your will or codicil
"I give to St. Paul's Hospital Foundation of Vancouver ____% of
the residue of my estate (or the sum of $______) for purposes determined
by its Board of Directors."
If you wish to designate your gift for a specific purpose or clinical area, you might include this phrase:
"I give to St. Paul's Hospital Foundation of Vancouver ____% of the residue of my estate (or the sum of $______) for purpose of _____________."
Note: when designating your gift for a specific area or purpose, it may be useful to check with us first to ensure the proper wording/names are used.
