Supporting the Lights of Hope campaign at St. Paul’s Hospital is truly a family affair for Dr. Alastair Younger (Ambulatory Care Physician Leader and Director of Research in Orthopaedics at PHC) and his wife Tamara (Surgical Program Leader at Mt. St. Joseph Hospital).
“We’ve got four teenagers at home, and part of Christmas is helping them understand the importance of community and giving,” Dr. Younger says. “An obvious way for them to get connected at Christmastime is through St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation, so this year, we got organized early and decided we wanted the whole family to have ownership with a donation.”
To that end, their Silver Level donation to the 2011 Lights of Hope campaign is recognized on the display as coming from “Alastair & Tamara Younger & Family: Douglas, Meaghan, Madison and Robert.” Dr. Younger says his children are excited to have their names recognized on the display and have gained an increased appreciation for the spirit of giving because of it.
Dr. Younger hopes their gift contributes to the spirit of giving in the overall community as well. He believes that seeing the St. Paul’s Hospital family show its support for the Lights of Hope campaign has tremendous value in inspiring patients and members of the community to show their support too.
“The Lights of Hope is a great campaign that reflects the true spirit of charity,” Dr. Younger says. “I think it sets a really good standard for the community.”
