Renewal of St. Paul's Hospital
St. Paul's is a major B.C. teaching hospital challenged by the fact that patient care and research programs are located in aging, seismically deficient buildings. To ensure that patients from across the province continue to get state-of-the art care, the hospital must be renewed.

No decision has been made about the renewal of St. Paul's. However, comprehensive planning and research undertaken to date by Providence Health Care (which operates St. Paul's) and third parties shows the best option for St. Paul's renewal is a two-site solution: a new hospital and research facility at the Station Street site, and a continued presence in the West End to meet the needs of that community.

When a new hospital project is initiated, completion of the building would be five to seven years away. In the meantime, we need your support more than ever to meet the special needs of a hospital that provides world-class health care for local and provincial residents. The Foundation has annual fundraising priorities based on the immediate needs of the hospital, primarily for medical equipment and special initiatives to better serve our patients. We put the funds that we raise to good use to meet these immediate needs. Equipment can be moved if necessary. The longer-term goals that we have in supporting research, such as recruiting and retaining key researchers by creating endowment funds for research chairs, are not related to location.
