Manager, Development

Maternity Leave Replacement (14 month contract)

General Accountability:

The Manager Development will work with the Vice President Development to help secure support from donors to sustain and advance our hospital programs.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Manage and grow an assigned portfolio of donors, which consist of individuals and foundations (and possibly some corporations) capable of leadership giving, $1,000,000 or more, to the Foundation. This will include identification of new prospects as well as growing current relationships.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive plan for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, closing, and stewarding gifts for the assigned donor portfolio, including upgrading existing donors.
  • Coordinate and participate in strategy meetings before donor/ stakeholder meetings.
  • Prepare briefing documents in preparation for meetings with donors and key stakeholders.
  • Prepare debriefing documents once the meeting has taken place.
  • Implement follow-up steps and strategies from the meeting.
  • Develop terms of reference for endowed donations in conjunction with the universities and donors, and deeds of gift for leadership gift donors.
  • Prepare correspondence as needed.
  • Working with the Manager Communications, research and write compelling proposals for leadership gifts.
  • Working with the Manager Stewardship and Donor Relations, recognize and steward donors as gifts are received; and with the Development Coordinator maintain and coordinate stewardship activities including recognition events, tours, donor wall, naming opportunities etc.
  • Review communications and stewardship materials to ensure full and correct donor information, including related Promise magazine articles.
  • Follow established procedures on Raiser’s Edge database for tracking and qualifying prospects and for recording and reporting gifts and ensure that all communications, contacts, correspondence, and actions are recorded.
  • Manage and track donor activity of Vice President Development (Leadership Giving) and the President & CEO.  Ensure this activity is recorded in Raiser’s Edge
  • With the Vice Presidents and President & CEO, monitor and maintain relationships with the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University specific to the establishment and management of joint endowments, as well as working in partnership on fundraising activity as needed.
  • Prepare and meet annual revenue and expense budget.
  • Prepare an annual work plan.
  • Review donor lists for donor activity such as cultivation events.
  • Ensure processing of donor gifts, pledges and receipts.
  • Develop analytical reports as requested by VP Development.
  • Develop and maintains processes and procedures as needed.
  • Prepare Board Reports for the leadership portfolio.
  • Develop good working relationships with key hospital staff.
  • When required, and in conjunction with key hospital staff, work to develop fundraising priorities for the Foundation.
  • Help plan and develop new fundraising strategies for leadership prospect activity.
  • Ensure successful execution of all activities to meet and exceed donor expectations.
  • Provide regular progress reports to the Vice President Development.
  • Keep abreast of the latest trends and techniques of charitable giving and become informed about the tax aspects of charitable gifts and new legislation and revenue rulings affecting such gifts.
  • When applicable, work with other development and Foundation teams to further the mandate and goals of the Foundation
  • Accommodates flexible hours, attending events.
  • Assists in other duties as required to further the goals of the Foundation.

Qualifications: Undergraduate degree in an applicable discipline.  Minimum of two years experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.  Ability to:

- maintain accuracy and attention to detail;

- exercise diplomacy and discretion;

- deal with a diversity of people in a calm, courteous, and effective manner;

- prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines;

- communicate effectively verbally and in writing; and

- analyze and effectively resolve problems.

Database Manager

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Manage overall integrity and administration of Raiser’s Edge database – ensure data cleanup and correct information entered
  • Ensure adherence of set standardization (data processing, issuance of tax receipts, data input, etc.)
  • Support fundraisers and senior leadership with lists, reports, exports, queries, training as the resident Raiser’s Edge “expert”
  • Prepare mailing lists and reports as needed (promise magazine, direct mailing, Holiday Cards, invite lists, recognition reports, etc…)
  • Prepare financial reports for Senior Management and Board Members
  • Prepare and distribute disbursement reports on a monthly basis
  • Manage pledges & updates in Raiser’s Edge database
  • Administer global changes to the Raiser’s Edge database
  • Import data from external sources (Excel, Word) into Raiser’s Edge database
  • Attend planning meetings with fundraisers to ensure proper coding and procedures for mailings, lists, reports, etc.
  • Adjust gifts and records as needed
  • Add flags in Raiser’s Edge for special cases (ex. Loyal donor pop-ups, family donors, annotations, notes, etc)
  • Explore ways to improve database efficiency
  • Provide Raiser’s Edge training to staff
  • Manage Raiser’s Edge security access
  • Assist with donation processing during peak periods
  • Act as liaison with Method Works Consulting, IT department, including Raiser’s Edge software upgrades
  • Develop policies and procedures regarding database
  • Monitor and ensure that shared drives are not full
  • Provide support for foundation events as required
  • Handle external contacts’ inquiries as needed
  • Collaborate with Vice-President, Operations & CFO to process complicated stock/share, Gift-In-Kind, online, Not-A-Donation types of donations
  • Process Gift of Securities in Raiser’s Edge
  • Generate gift and fund reports as requested
  • Generate Month-End Gift Detail Reports
  • Generate pledge updates
  • Assist with annual Fiscal Year-End Audit – prepare working papers, generate various fund reports (receipted, unreceipted, GIK, Service Clubs, etc…)
  • Assist with annual Charity Return (reports: total receipted/unreceipted, stocks)
